The Belarc Advisor is a free personal PC auditing tool that produces detailed information about your computer and also analyzes it for different security loopholes such as missing/out-of-date antivirus, windows security patches, network loopholes etc. Once installed it builds a detailed profile of your installed software, hardware, network inventory, missing Microsoft hotfixes, anti-virus status, security benchmarks, and displays the results in your Web browser. It uses the Center for Internet Security (CIS) benchmark test to give the computer a score showing its overall security level. The score is a number between zero and ten that gives a measure of the vulnerability of your system to potential threats. The higher the number the less vulnerable your system.
You need to understand that this program doesn’t fix the problems itself, but gives clear advice on how to address each issue. Each identified vulnerability has a hyperlink which directs you to the website to give you more information. It also displays the information on when your USB drive was accessed in the last 30 days, the amount of RAM installed and drive specifications. You can easily print the report directly from the browser display, thereby creating a hard copy reference document for future use. All of your PC profile information is kept private on your PC. These HTML reports are kept under c:\Program Files\Belarc\Advisor\System\tmp or c:\Program Files (x86)\Belarc\Advisor\System\tmp on Windows 7 if you want to access them at later point.
