Everything from Voidtools is a simple and free index and search tool that locates files and folders by filename instantly on Windows. It
provides better search results than the built in Windows search. It’s also faster at returning results. Unlike Windows search, Everything initially displays all files and folders on your computer (hence the name “Everything“) and reduces the files list as you type in a search filter.
The first use of the tool would take few moments to index your drive, but after that all subsequent searches are at blazing fast. Everything does not search file contents, it only searches file and folder names. The results come up in real time as your typing. It shows the files of what you’re looking for, its path, size and date modified. This tool will only locate files and folders on local NTFS volumes. In order to search on Networked computers an ETP server is required in one of the networked computer and the individual Everything instances has to connect to ETP server. The tool also comes with an integrated HTTP server and the port is defaulted to 80. Click on Tools -> Start Http server to start it and click on the same again to stop it.
The installable version of Everything integrates with the Context menu. Right click a directory you know has thousands of files, and select Search Everything. It’s a must have utility for any Windows user. I prefer to download the portable version of this tool.

Will this software find hidden files? And does it search the content of files? Can you ask it to avoid searching files like zip or pdf?
