It is Deepavali, ‘A festival of Lights’ season and everybody are busy in doing the shopping like buying cloths, sweets, sending cards or emails and some us are even very busy in finding the right transportation to visit their native place for celebrations. Am i missing something? i know what you are going to tell. Yes, the above listed items are not so important to many of the people in India when compared with the most crucial item CRACKERs. In my view only two things are very important for any Indian during this Depavali or Diwali season.
1. A series of Deepam (A kind of Oil Lamp shown in the picture) in front of the house. You hardly find this in towns and cities now a days but it is common in villages
2. Crackers (Fire works)
You can find a lot of Deepam (made up of clay) selling shops road side in this season. They cast you from (INR) Rs.10/- to Rs.80/- depending on the size and quality. Now a days a lot of varieties of Deepams of coming into the market.
Earlier i used to buy the crackers from the near by shops where i used to get the discount of 10 – 15% on MRP, but last year i found one crackers retail shop which was setup near Agara (Sarjapura Road area, Bangalore) which is a remote locality and they are offered around 40% discount on average (some items you can even get for 50% discount). It is no surprise to get that discount if the retailer is getting the stuff from factory directly or the factory itself setting up the shops. So, keep looking at different areas in your city for this kind of retail shops and keep enquire about the prices. Also remember one thing, you may get even more discount from these retailers if you buy the crackers on the Deepavali day.
Resident of TRIVANDRUM, Kerala has another option to buy Crackers this year. The Hindu reported today that a six-member group of young Technopark engineers have launched a website, malapadakkam.com, to help their colleagues celebrate a hassle-free Deepavali. But they misspelled the website name so when clicking on the link it goes to browser error page. I think they (The Hindu) should be more cautious while typing the website addresses because incorrect url will not give any benefit to the website owners or to newspapers and very few people would be interested in finding the real website probably by googling as i did.
I had a chat with Mr. Anand today, who is one of the core persons behind this web site, thanks to him for explaining me about their products. The malapadakkam.com is created only to serve the people in TRIVANDRUM and surrounding areas as of now. The Internet calling feature of this website is using their core product bounzd.com which we will review in later posts.
